Greening Canada Fund

Announcing the launch of the Greening Canada Fund
first-ever voluntary Carbon Offset Investment Fund for corporate Canada

Green Power Action Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of the Greening Canada Fund – the first ever voluntary carbon emissions reduction fund aimed exclusively at large Canadian corporations. Two of Canada’s largest financial institutions will be the lead investors and have committed an initial $13 million. Both investors have made a public and voluntary commitment to become “carbon neutral”.

On behalf of its investors the Greening Canada Fund will purchase and deliver carbon offset credits from across Canada. One of the many unique features of the Fund is its objective to primarily source credits from social and not-for-profit organizations such as Canadian public schools, hospitals, community housing, etc.

The Greening Canada Fund will allow Canadian corporations to invest in domestic emission reductions projects that will achieve environmental benefits and will expand Canada’s green technology sector and jobs. With the Funds’ mandate to secure offset credits from social sources, investors can achieve their environmental objectives while meeting their Corporate Social Responsibility objectives.

Green Power Action Inc. was chosen to be the fund manager by the Toronto City Summit Alliance’s Greening Greater Toronto initiative. Greening Greater Toronto is at the forefront of working with over 150 corporate partners to develop real mechanisms and tools that will enable them to be green. Green Power Action is a Toronto based company specializing in the management of carbon/offset and renewable energy certificates.

The Greening Canada Fund became operational September 30, 2009 and has begun to source and deliver credits for delivery in 2009 through to 2013. The Fund is open ended and Green Power Action is marketing the Fund to Canadian corporations who have made a commitment to manage their environmental footprint.
