Rob Elms – Chairman

Robert M. Elms, P.Eng. is a co-founder and Principal of Green Power Action Inc. and the President and co-founder of North American Carbon Canada and coolAction.com Inc.. These companies were formed in the 1990s to specialize in the emerging greenhouse gas emission reduction markets.  Prior to the formation of these companies Mr. Elms was employed with Ontario Hydro in a number of engineering and analyst positions including Business Development Engineer (1993-95), Senior Analyst, Strategic Planning (1991-93) and Program Analyst (1987-1991). Mr. Elms holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Lakehead University (1987) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University (1983).  Mr. Elms is a registered professional engineer in the province of Ontario (1991-present) and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), 1987-present.

Gerry Rocchi – President & CEO

Gerry Rocchi is a co-founder and Principal of Green Power Action Inc., and a financial consultant specializing in investment and in environmental markets. He is a director of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, and a member of the Independent Review Committee of Burgundy Asset Management. He co-teaches a course on pension and endowment fund management in the Master of Finance program at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He was a director of Market Regulation Services Inc. and chair of its Finance and Audit Committee from 2004 to 2007. He was Chief Executive Officer of Barclays Global Investors Canada from 1997 to late 2004. He has served as a director of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada, and as a member of the Standard & Poor’s / TSX Index Advisory Panel, the Investment Funds Council advising the Ontario Securities Commission on fund regulation, the Rules Advisory Committee of Market Regulation Services Inc., and the Regulatory Committee of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada.  He chaired an industry committee on data consolidation and market integration in 2003 for the Canadian Securities Administrators.  From 1981 to 1987 he worked with Imperial Oil and Exxon, in a variety of financial management roles. He received an MBA in finance and a BA in economics from the University of Toronto.

Phil Schmitt – Vice President

Phil Schmitt is a co-founder and Principal of Green Power Action Inc. and the President and CEO of Summerwood Group Inc. and Summerwood Capital Corp.  The Summerwood companies were founded in 2006 and specialize in advising and managing alternative investments. Prior to founding Summerwood, from 1992 he was a Vice President and, subsequently, President of Polar Securities Inc., a Toronto based multi-strategy hedge fund manager. From 1991 to 1992 he was the director of Equity Trading and Derivative products at TD Investment Management, a division of TD Securities Inc. From 1983 to 1991 he worked at Burns Fry Limited, a Canadian securities dealer successively as a quantitative equity research analyst, derivative trader and lastly as manager of the Canadian Equity Derivative Trade Desk. From 1980 to 1983 he worked at Wood Gundy Ltd. as a computer analyst. Mr. Schmitt received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1986 and graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1980 with a Bachelors of Mathematics. He has participated on a number of regulatory and industry committees including as Chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association – Canada Inc., as a Director of AIMA Limited (U.K.) and is currently Vice Chair – Market Rules Advisory Committee of IIROC, the Canadian investment industry regulatory organization.
